The Etsy - Hexagon Series

Description

The sixth brooch I made for my hexagon series. I generally do not like plastics and much prefer to work in metal. (There are exceptions of course, such as Bakelite, Carbon Fiber, and Micarta.)

I tried mixing some acrylic with that white plastic on the top, but it had a violent reaction to it and bubbled up like crazy. (It probably didn't help that it was expired too.) I decided to keep it because it amused me. The dark blue is just 5-minute epoxy mixed with blue paint; a common trick employed with varying degrees of success by amateur and professional jewelers alike. The left chamber is filled with tiny watch parts suspended in ice resin. Clearly this is integral to the brooch's mechanical function, as it is a steampunk brooch. Finally, the pinback riveted on the back was the absolute cheapest I could find: it cost less than a cent when I bought it in bulk.

This was somewhat of a jab at jewelry you see at craft fairs or on Etsy. Not really as a whole; I've seen plenty of creative and interesting things from both of these sources.
